Denali National Park, Alaska August 2001 One of my resolutions this year was to see the Northern Lights. Well, I didn't quite get to see that but I did make it to Alaska and Denali National Park. The big group we initially had was pared down to just me and Joel. The original plans called for a week in the backcountry just roaming around but three days before we left Joel tore some ligaments in his foot so we were reduced to hitting campgrounds along the road for a week. This turned out to be ideal for the first trip to Denali as we got to see most of the park from the entrance to Kantishna at mile 90 of the park road. We spent a lot of time getting ideas for where we want to camp next time we come out - in the back country. Words don't really do this place justice. Neither do these pictures. But it's still something to look at. If I were you, I'd buy some tickets right now! It's a magical place to visit. These are a few of my pictures and a few of Joel's. Thanks to Wolf Camera for the crappy scans that left a red stripe on a bunch of the pictures. Between us we took 13 rolls of film and I didn't want to manually scan any of that! I'm sure Joel will post some on his site eventually (www.gearnuts.net) so if you want to see some more check there. Otherwise I'll show the rest of them to most of you at Christmas! -Wyatt |
